Devin Haney says he was as surprised as everyone else for the call without demolition in the ninth round of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ fight against Lamont Roach on Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Haney said he had never seen anything like that before when the lightweight champion of the AMB, Tank Davis (30-0-1, 28 kos) knelt in the ninth. The referee Steve Willis chose not to write it down as a fall. He even let Tank return to his corner so that the eyes are toward.
The non -demolition allowed the tank to escape with a majority draw of 12 rounds. Then, the ABA champion stayed, and Roach stayed with anything to show for his performance.
“I always knew that Lamont would not come to bed. I’ve been meeting Lamont since we were children. So, we arrived at the fans together, ”said Devin Haney to Ring MagazineReflecting on the fight of Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach since last Saturday night.
“I knew that Lamont was serious and entered there to fight, but I thought he did much better than he thought. I thought he won the fight. The non -demolition, which was unheard of. That is the first time I’ve seen with my own eyes, “Haney said about Tank Davis, surrounds himself in the ninth and the referee does not call him a fall.
Many people believe that if Lamont Roach had shot and then returned to his corner, the referee would have told him as a fall and then exhausted the fight. It is not a superstar like Tank Davis, so it would not be given the special treatment that the stars receives.
The referee began to give Tank a recount of eight, but then stopped for some reason. That was weird. Roach feels that it should have been a knockout, which would have given him the victory. Since then he has appealed to the Athletic Commission of the State of New York, hoping that they will change the result to give him the victory. Surprisingly, they are taking a long time to decide.
